Welcome to the update on The Times’ Summer Reading Contest highlights for this week. We are excited to share some of the top moments from the contest as we near the end of this year’s competition.

One of the standout moments from this week’s contest is Vareeraya Sukasem, a 12-year-old from Thailand, who impressed everyone with her skills in the warm-up before the women’s street skateboarding competition at La Concorde in Paris. It’s inspiring to see young athletes like Vareeraya grabbing medals and the spotlight at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

For students participating in the Summer Reading Contest, this is the final week to share their thoughts and experiences with us. We want to hear from you about what caught your attention in The New York Times this week and why. You have until Aug. 16 at 9 a.m. Eastern to submit your response.

You can choose any piece from The New York Times, whether it’s an article, photo, essay, video, podcast, or graphic. We encourage you to explore and find something that interests you. If you don’t have a Times subscription, don’t worry – we provide free links to interesting content each week.

Participants can submit a 250-word comment or a 90-second video as their response. Your submissions will be reviewed by New York Times journalists, staff, and educators from around the world. Each week, we will feature at least one favorite answer on our site. The winners for Week 10 will be announced by Aug. 28.

We appreciate your patience as we verify access for all participants. If you are in Reader mode, please log into your Times account or consider subscribing to access all of The Times’ content.

Whether you’re a subscriber or a first-time reader, we encourage you to join us in celebrating the end of another successful Summer Reading Contest. Thank you to everyone who has participated and shared their thoughts with us. We look forward to reading more engaging responses in the final week of the contest.
