Welcome to Week 9 of the Summer Reading Contest! This week, we have some exciting stories that caught everyone’s eye.

Recently, the United States women’s gymnastics team claimed gold in the team competition at the Paris Olympics. The team put on a nearly flawless performance, showcasing their incredible skills and teamwork. Just two days later, Simone Biles made history by winning the women’s gymnastics all-around final. With this win, she became the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast of all time.

To participate in this week’s contest, simply submit your response by Aug. 9 at 9 a.m. Eastern. Winners will be announced by Aug. 21.

You can choose any article, photo, essay, video, podcast, or graphic from The New York Times, whether it was published in the print paper or online in 2024. Don’t worry if you don’t have a subscription – we’ve provided free links to some interesting stories below.

Students can submit a 250-word comment or a 90-second video. Your responses will be reviewed by New York Times journalists, staff, and educators from around the world. We’ll even feature at least one favorite answer on our site each week.
