Welcome to the final week of The New York Times’ 15th Annual Summer Reading Contest. For the past 10 weeks, students have been sharing what caught their attention in The New York Times and why. To participate in Week 10, students can choose any article, photo, essay, video, podcast, or graphic published in the print paper or on nytimes.com in 2024 and submit a response by 9 a.m. Eastern on Aug. 16.
Whether you have a Times subscription or not, there are free links provided each week to help you find interesting pieces to engage with. Students can submit a 250-word comment or a 90-second video as their response. These responses will be reviewed by New York Times journalists, educators, and staff. At least one favorite answer will be featured on the site each week, with winners from Week 10 being announced by Aug. 28.
This week’s highlights include Vareeraya Sukasem, a 12-year-old from Thailand, warming up before the heats of the women’s street skateboarding competition at La Concorde in Paris. It’s part of the excitement surrounding teens and preteens making their mark at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Students are encouraged to share their experiences with the Summer Reading Contest through a short survey.
