donating-315000-books-to-north-carolina-schools-just-right-readers-response-to-hurricane-helene

In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation in North Carolina, Just Right Reader stepped up to support local schools by donating a staggering 315,000 books to students in grades K-2 across the northwest and western regions of the state. Partnering with the Northwest Region Education Service Alliance (NWRESA) in North Wilkesboro and the Western Region Education Service Alliance (WRESA) in Asheville, Just Right Reader made a significant impact on the communities affected by the storm.

Terry Worrell, executive director of NWRESA, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting the importance of providing high-quality literature to students during difficult times. The books donated by Just Right Reader not only put valuable resources in the hands of students but also reinforced the essential skill of reading. Worrell emphasized how blessed the schools felt to receive such a generous contribution, especially when many students had lost their school supplies and books due to the hurricane’s impact.

Similarly, Jan Webster, director of WRESA, echoed Worrell’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of Just Right Reader’s donation in supporting students who had experienced significant losses in the aftermath of the hurricane. The donation of Science of Reading Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™, totaling 31,500 packs or 315,000 books, was a lifeline for many families in the region.

The Science of Reading Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™ provided by Just Right Reader offer a comprehensive approach to literacy education, catering to students at various reading levels. These packs include structured phonics practice using engaging texts, writing resources to enhance decoding and writing skills, and QR codes on each book for parents and caregivers to access additional phonics lessons in English and Spanish. Additionally, families have access to an online family hub with research-based activities to encourage reading at home.

Sara Rich, founder and CEO of Just Right Reader, emphasized the impact of the donation on families affected by Hurricane Helene, acknowledging the challenges many faced in the aftermath of the storm. Rich, alongside NWRESA and WRESA, hoped that the literacy resources provided by Just Right Reader would bring a sense of normalcy and joy to students and families as they navigated the recovery process.

The commitment of Just Right Reader to accelerate student achievement and create joyful reading experiences through Science of Reading-based resources is evident in their extensive library of English and Spanish literacy materials. With a focus on personalized learning and family engagement, Just Right Reader aims to empower students and families with the tools they need for literacy success both in and out of the classroom.
