Welcome to the ninth week of The Times’ 15th Annual Summer Reading Contest. This week, we have some exciting highlights to share with you.

On July 30, the United States women’s gymnastics team achieved gold in the team competition at the Paris Olympics, displaying near-perfect performances. Following this success, Simone Biles made history by winning the women’s gymnastics all-around final, solidifying her position as the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast of all time.

For Week 9 of the contest, students are invited to participate by sharing what caught their attention in The New York Times and explaining why. To enter, simply submit your response by 9 a.m. Eastern on Aug. 9. You can choose any piece that was published in the print paper or on nytimes.com in 2024, such as articles, photos, essays, videos, podcasts, or graphics.

Participants can submit a 250-word comment or a 90-second video response. Your submissions will be reviewed by New York Times journalists, staff, and educators worldwide. Each week, at least one favorite answer will be selected to be featured on our site. The winners of Week 9 will be announced by Aug. 21.
