Infosys and Street Child Collaborate to Support Ukrainian Students

In a groundbreaking partnership, Infosys and Street Child have joined forces to address the educational challenges faced by children in crisis-affected areas of Ukraine. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in their three-year journey, culminating in the establishment of seven Digital Learning Centers (DLCs) to provide essential support to the youth in need.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has taken a devastating toll on the education system, impacting over 3,700 educational institutions and destroying 365 schools, according to Save the Children. With nearly 1.9 million children forced to rely on remote learning solutions, there is an urgent need for innovative approaches to ensure access to quality education for all.

Recognizing this critical need, Infosys and Street Child initiated two impactful initiatives in 2024. The first initiative involved the creation of DLCs, secure physical spaces equipped for online learning, while the second focused on a Digital Transformation program utilizing Infosys’ flagship digital learning platform, Infosys Springboard, to provide tailored courses for students and teachers.

Empowering Communities Through Digital Learning Centers

The collaboration began with a focus on creating and renovating five DLCs in Dnipropetrovsk, an Oblast in Eastern Ukraine that had received limited international aid due to its proximity to the conflict zone. Despite the challenges, the partnership successfully delivered seven DLCs within just 12 months, highlighting the dedication and commitment of all involved.

One particularly remarkable aspect of this endeavor was the renovation of a center by an all-female team of contractors. With conscription limiting the availability of male workers, this initiative not only empowered women in the workforce but also showcased the resilience and resourcefulness of the community in the face of adversity.

Since their launch in September 2024, these centers have already made a significant impact, serving over 1,000 children in their first three months of operation. Equipped with essential resources such as laptops, high-speed internet, multimedia projectors, and educational materials, the DLCs provide a conducive environment for learning and growth. Additionally, the inclusion of designated spaces for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) underscores the holistic approach taken to support the overall well-being of young learners.

Transforming Education Through Tailored Courses

The Digital Transformation program introduced by Infosys and Street Child aims to preserve Ukraine’s cultural identity while addressing critical educational needs. By offering courses in Ukrainian Language and Geography for Grades 5 and 6, the program ensures that students have access to relevant and engaging content that resonates with their heritage.

For teachers, specialized courses on topics such as Cybersecurity and Anti-Corruption have been developed to enhance their skills and knowledge in adapting to new learning environments. These courses align seamlessly with Ukraine’s national educational platform, All Ukrainian Online, providing a comprehensive and integrated approach to digital learning.

Tom Dannatt, CEO & Co-Founder of Street Child, emphasized the importance of digital education in supporting children affected by conflict, stating, “At Street Child, we’re working to create a world where every child is safe, in school, and learning. Unfortunately, many Ukrainian children cannot attend physical classrooms, so we’re focusing our efforts on where we can make the biggest difference.”

Thirumala Arohi, Executive Vice President of Infosys, highlighted the significance of the collaboration in addressing the devastating impact of the conflict on Ukraine’s education system. He emphasized Infosys’ commitment to social impact and the transformative potential of delivering quality education in crisis-affected regions worldwide.

The collaboration between Infosys and Street Child stands as a testament to the power of partnership and innovation in overcoming challenges and creating lasting change in communities. By leveraging technology, expertise, and a shared commitment to education, these organizations are paving the way for a brighter future for Ukrainian students and teachers alike.
