National STEM Day 2024 is just around the corner, and to celebrate, Discovery Education and its partners are offering a variety of free resources to engage students in STEM education. This annual event, which takes place on November 8th, aims to highlight the importance of teaching science, technology, engineering, and math to students in grades K-12.

One of the exciting resources available to educators, students, and families is a series of Virtual Field Trips. For example, the Mission Possible Virtual Field Trip, titled “Re-powering the Future,” will take students to field locations where different energy generation sites are being repurposed. They will also have the opportunity to meet new STEM professionals who will share the skills required for careers in STEM. This Virtual Field Trip is the first in a new series from the STEM Careers Coalition, which aims to provide free STEM content and career connections to students. Since its inception, the coalition has reached over 10.7 million students, with 65% of them coming from Title I schools.

Another exciting Virtual Field Trip is the Innovators for Impact Virtual Field Trip from STEM Forward, featuring Panasonic and Olympian Katie Ledecky. Participants will virtually travel to Japan to meet Panasonic STEM specialists who are exploring innovative ways of living and working in the present and future. Katie Ledecky, a proud STEM advocate and Olympic Gold Medalist, will also be part of this experience.

In addition to Virtual Field Trips, Discovery Education and its partners offer Classroom Resources like Futurelab+ and the Young Scientist Lab. These resources provide students with opportunities to engage in independent research projects, apply biotechnology knowledge to real-world scenarios, and tackle real-world challenges to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

For educators looking to enhance their teaching skills, there are Professional Development opportunities available as well. The Master Class series from Sustainable Futures and the AR/VR professional development content from Discovery Education and Verizon’s Innovative Learning are designed to help educators create powerful learning moments and increase student engagement using immersive technology in the classroom.

All of these specially curated resources and more can be accessed on the National STEM Day Discovery Education website and Discovery Education Experience, the award-winning K-12 learning platform. Amy Nakamoto, Executive Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Discovery Education, expressed excitement about collaborating with partners to ignite a passion for STEM in classrooms and prepare the next generation to tackle future challenges.
