The STEM Careers Coalition, a partnership between industries and non-profit organizations working with Discovery Education to provide free STEM content and career opportunities, has exceeded its goal of reaching 10 million students by 2025 ahead of schedule. Since its inception in 2019, the coalition has reached over 10.7 million students, with 2.97 million reached in the 2023-2024 school year alone, 65% of whom are from Title I schools.

It is crucial to educate students in STEM fields, as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 23% growth in STEM jobs by 2030. Through the STEM Careers Coalition, K-12 students and educators across the United States receive support in the form of high-quality career resources, equal access to essential tools, employee engagement opportunities, and research.

Amy Nakamoto, the General Manager of Corporate Partnerships at Discovery Education, emphasized the importance of collaboration in inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals. By bringing together various industries in one platform for educators, the coalition allows students to explore the wide range of opportunities in STEM and understand the critical thinking skills necessary for success in any STEM-related career.

The STEM Careers Coalition is committed to promoting diverse career awareness and exposure, preparing students for future STEM jobs by equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for success in college and their careers. The coalition offers a wealth of resources, including classroom materials, career exploration tools, after-school activities, digital content, and more, with a network of partners from different industries.

One of the newest resources provided by the STEM Careers Coalition is the Mission Possible Virtual Field Trip: Re-powering the Future, set to premiere on November 21, 2024. Additionally, 14 new career bundles introduce K-12 students to various careers, such as senior data scientist, gnotobiotics training coordinator, fire protection design manager, chemical engineer, and more.
