As we approach the upcoming presidential election, it’s crucial for the education funding community to come together in a bipartisan manner to defend democracy and save our public schools. Despite our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, our sector has at times hindered social justice efforts and empowered specific groups at the expense of others.
In light of this, two new initiatives have been introduced to further the collective commitment to education and democracy. The Fund for Campus Liberation aims to support students who are advocating for change on their campuses by providing resources such as tents, fans, and food delivery credits. The Fund for Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive Democracy will amplify the voices of students and educators advocating for tolerance, social justice, and increased education funding.
Additionally, a series of webinars will be held in the coming months to engage members and impact groups in important conversations around democratic education, systemic racism, and the role of philanthropy in promoting liberation. These discussions aim to address critical issues facing our education system and society as a whole.
