So, like, the NASUWT, which is like the second biggest teaching union in Britain, is like in a bit of a pickle right now. It’s all because they appointed this dude named Matt Wrack as their new general secretary, and people are mad because he’s like, not really a teacher or anything.
Not really sure why this matters, but apparently, Wrack used to be the head of the Fire Brigades Union for like 20 years until he lost his re-election bid in January. But now he’s here, causing a stir in the NASUWT because some folks think he’s not the right fit for the job.
Like, some guy named Neil Butler wanted to run for the position too, but the union said nah because of some rule that says you can’t be an employee and a member of the union at the same time. Bit weird, right?
But it’s not just teachers who are upset about this. Apparently, some Jewish teachers are worried because Wrack may have been insensitive to antisemitism allegations in the Labour party.
Overall, the NASUWT is in a bit of a mess right now, with legal challenges and concerns about Wrack’s appointment swirling around. Not sure how this will all play out, but it’s definitely gonna be interesting to see what happens next.
